Participants will complete several modules online, followed by a three-day in-person training session. Yohali Burrola-Méndez and Sara Múnera are developing the online training modules and are considering the feedback received from the Training Working Group and stakeholders. Dave Calver and Yohali Burrola-Méndez will facilitate the in-person sessions. To help support trainers’ travel and time, food during the training days, and to manage other logistics, we are seeking $1,000/participant.
4. CUGH Grant
Dr. Mary Goldberg, Dr. Jon Pearlman, and Yohali Burrola-Méndez received a small grant from the Consortium of Universities for Global Health to test the feasibility of a few basic level online modules in wheelchair service provision with a group of students, clinicians, and wheelchair users from urban, peri-urban, and rural areas in Mexico. The project consists of 4 phases: recruitment, baseline, trainings, and evaluation and will be conducted from June – December 2018.5. Professional Standard Board Status: The Professional Standard Board members met on April 17th, 2018. During this call, the group finalised the ISWP Credential Ethical Standards of Practice, discussed and provided feedback on the certification process document and marketing and launch plan including the pricing model. ISWP central team is currently finalising the documents based on the feedback and will pass to the members for one more round of feedback prior to a June/July meeting where members will be requested to vote in favor, not in favor, or in favor with recommendations.
6. Mentoring status & updates
The subcommittee is in the process of finalizing the mentors and mentees that will participate in the next phase of the mentoring program, which is anticipated to run from August – October 2018. 3 mentors will participate with 5 mentees each. 12 mentees are confirmed to date, therefore, ISWP requests subcommittee members recommend intermediate level service providers from less-resourced settings who meet the inclusion criteria to participate:
• Must have successfully completed a WHO WSTPb and WSTPi or comparable training
• Must have successfully completed the ISWP Basic and Intermediate Knowledge Tests
• Must be able to complete a client case study with informed consent for use of pictures and other personal information
• Must have access to reliable internet connection
• Must be available at least 3 hours per week from August to October 2018 to participate in program activities.
• Must be fluent in English. Please contact Alex Miles with any recommendations or questions. If you or colleagues are interested in participating in the program as a mentor, please use the link below to complete the form to be considered for future cohorts.
May 23, 2018 at 3:56 pm #4695Congratulations on all the progress reported in this Update. Impressive!
My comment and questions relate to Item 3 (the “Upcoming ISWP Trainer of Trainers [ToT] Hybrid Basic Level” being held in Los Angeles August 6-8, 2018). What is ISWP’s role in this event (e.g. sponsor, organizer, provider of faculty)? Assuming that it is one of these and that the host organization (UCP/WFH) does not object, presumably the curriculum does not need to be strictly restricted to the WHO WSTP ToT materials but could be expanded along the lines of earlier “Hybrid Plus” experiments. Has this been considered for this and future similar training events? Lee Kirby

Thanks Lee. We agree there is a lot of opportunity for people to customize the ToT according to their allotted time and that by providing some appropriate content online, there is more time for different hands-on workshops. We are also promoting self-learning, additional training resources, as next steps at the conclusion of the training. It would be great to see what your proposed schedule would be for an in-person session and how you would allocate the sessions. Yohali has a template that you would be able to modify.
